Short term...tonight through Monday...a well defined short wave 
trough...positioned around 45n/130w at 19z today...will make its 
way into the intermountain northwest on Sunday. Clouds will increase 
across the area late tonight ahead of this system. Widespread 
showers and isolated thunderstorms will develop Sunday afternoon 
over southeast Oregon and the higher terrain of SW Idaho. Isolated to 
scattered activity will develop across the Snake River Plain in 
Idaho by late Sunday afternoon. The increased cloud cover will 
keep temperatures down 3-8f degrees from today/S highs. Those with 
outdoor activities in the mountains will get wet as forecast 
precipitation amounts from the models is one to two tenths of an 
inch. That system exits to the northeast late Sunday night with 
most areas drying out...the west central and eastern Boise Mountains 
being the exception as showers continue into Monday morning. A 
second system moves into the Pacific northwest Monday...increasing clouds and 
the chance of precipitation across southeast Oregon through the day. 
Much of SW Idaho is dry on Monday with a slight chance of 
afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the SW Idaho mountains due to 
instability. Temperatures cool 4-8f degrees from today to Sunday 
with little change from Sunday to Monday. 


Long term...Monday night through Saturday...broad upper level 
trough will remain over the Pacific northwest through the forecast 
period bring colder temperatures and precipitation. Upper level 
trough associated with a deeper moisture plume will spread showers 
into southeast Oregon by Monday night...and then across the entire area on 
Tuesday morning. This will bring measurable precipitation to the 
entire area. A slight thunderstorms will be possible Tuesday 
afternoon across the higher terrain of southwest Idaho as the 
passing shortwave trough will provide dynamic lift. Temperatures 
Tuesday will be well below normal by about 8-10 degrees. Moist 
northwest flow aloft will continue into the weekend as the mean 
trough axis remain over the Pacific northwest. Another shortwave on 
Wednesday will brings another chance for more showers. Upper low 
forms over the northern rockies Thursday/Friday and slowly moves 
east for a brief break in the moist conditions Saturday. 
Temperatures gradually rising back to near normal values by the 
weekend.

Aviation...VFR. Slight chance for showers and thunderstorms this 
afternoon over the higher terrain of southeast Oregon and SW Idaho. West to 
northwest surface winds up to 10 kts. Southwest winds aloft will 
average 20 kts at 10k feet mean sea level. Sunday...showers will spread into 
eastern Oregon by late morning...and into SW Idaho by the early 
afternoon. Expect scattered showers and a slight chance of 
thunderstorms in the afternoon through evening hours. Snow levels 
will be at 7500-8500 feet mean sea level.
